Throughout the month of May, tenants may notice that our contractors will not be mowing grassed areas as usual. Instead, our teams will be focusing on maintaining hard landscaped areas, as well as keeping communal spaces tidy and safe.
Why No Mow May?
No Mow May is a simple but powerful initiative that encourages letting grass grow naturally during spring. By allowing lawns to grow longer and wildflowers to develop, we can create important habitats for bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.
Pollinators play a vital role in our ecosystems. Supporting them helps:
- Increase biodiversity
- Improve the health of our green spaces
- Encourage a richer, more natural environment for everyone to enjoy
Our participation is part of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, which promotes practical actions to protect and restore pollinator populations across the country.
What You Can Expect
During May:
Grass cutting will be reduced or paused in many areas
Grounds teams will continue to maintain paths, edges, and hard surfaces
Communal outdoor spaces will still be managed to ensure they remain safe and tidy
How You Can Get Involved
If you have your own private garden, we encourage you to take part too.
By leaving your lawn uncut during May, even in a small area, you can help provide valuable food and shelter for pollinators. Every patch of grass left to grow makes a difference.
Working Together for Biodiversity
Supporting No Mow May is a simple step that can have a meaningful impact. At Ark Housing, we are committed to improving biodiversity across our communities, and we appreciate your support as we take part in this initiative.
Together, we can help create greener, healthier spaces for both people and wildlife.
