Condensation is a common problem in all types of housing and excessive moisture in bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms are the most common cause of complaint.
It is very important that precautions are taken against condensation, otherwise clothes, bedding and decoration can become damaged by mould growth or dampness.
Tenants are recommended to keep their kitchen and bathroom doors closed when running hot water, washing, etc. as this prevents the humid air in one room spreading to colder rooms.
They are also recommended to ensure bedrooms are well ventilated during and after cooking, bathing, washing, etc. by opening a window or using an extractor fan, as the humid air may condense on the windows or behind wardrobes etc.
Clothes should be dried outside if possible and not over radiators. The central heating system should be used at all times to maintain a constant temperature throughout a house, as this will reduce cold areas where condensation could form.
Finally, tenants are recommended not to use paraffin or bottled gas heaters as these appliances are major sources for condensation. ( Paraffin heaters or bottled gas are not allowed in flats ).
